Leadership Corps, July 2011

Dear Leadership Corps friend,

It seems like such a long time since I last updated you.  I hope this email finds you well and enjoying your summer.  Since my last letter so much has happened. During the period of March 2009 – March 2010, I had the privilege to serve as Chairman of The American College of Healthcare Executives (www.ache.org).  This gave me the opportunity to meet so many wonderful healthcare leaders and really take the pulse of healthcare organizations across the country and the world.  Sadly, at the very beginning of the term, my wife Chris was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease).  It has been almost a year since Chris lost her battle with this awful disease.  My days are busy, and I am now engaged fully on the efforts of IHS Group (www.ihsgroup.net) and Leadership Corps.

At last writing I mentioned, the economic climate proving to be difficult.   While it still is, I think we have all settled into our new economic reality and in some ways may be stronger than before. Certainly, the global health community embraces the importance of health system strengthening, so I remain optimistic that the Leadership Corps is addressing an important need and will continue to gain momentum over the coming months.  In terms of concrete activities, in March we had a change in our organization and Stephanie Weber, who was critical to our initial efforts, handed over her deputy director responsibilities to Anne Marie Moncure, FACHE.   You can see her bio here on our Leadership Corps website.  I have known Anne for years, and she is one of those “global healthcare souls” that has worked in the US, Europe, & Asia.  Julie Kasten and Anne have been busy updating and re-energizing our efforts.  You can see some of their work on the Leadership Corp welcome page.

This gives you a feel for some of what has transpired since July 2009.  I will continue to keep you updated as the Leadership Corps evolves and progresses.  We do plan to launch our pilot project in 2012.   As always, please do not hesitate to get in touch with your ideas and suggestions.

Best wishes,

Charlie R. Evans, FACHE
President, Leadership Corps
