Leadership Corps, July 2009

Dear Leadership Corps friend,

I hope this email finds you well and enjoying your summer. I'm writing to
give you an update on the Leadership Corps.

The past several months have been filled with challenges as well as
opportunities. The current economic climate has proven to be a difficult
environment within which to launch a new initiative. However, the global
health community embraces the importance of health system
strengthening, so I remain optimistic that the Leadership Corps is
addressing an important need and will continue to gain momentum over the
coming months.

In terms of concrete activities, Stephanie and I have been exploring
partnerships with the Center for Global Service, the Yale Clinton Ethiopia
Health Management Initiative, Family Health International, and the newly
launched, highly successful Global Health Corps. These discussions have
been very helpful for articulating what we seek to accomplish and
discovering how the Leadership Corps can work synergistically with
existing organizations.

Additionally, we are very excited to have onboard Dr. Sandra Dratler as an
adviser and guide during these formative months. Dr. Dratler is a member
of the core faculty of the Doctor of Public Health (DrPH) Program at the
University of California Berkeley School of Public Health. She has
extensive experience in health care management having served 25 years as a
senior health care manager in hospitals and health systems in the
Minneapolis and San Francisco markets. Over the past ten years, her
efforts have been focused on capacity building in developing countries
with an emphasis on management development. Please help me welcome Dr.
Dratler to the Leadership Corps team!

Going forward, I will continue to keep you updated as the Leadership Corps
evolves and progresses. As always, please do not hesitate to get in touch
with your ideas and suggestions.

Best wishes,

Charlie Evans
